Winter Season Kickoff

I think we can agree that winter has officially arrived, bringing the usual cold fronts, high pressure squatting overhead, wind from every direction, or no wind at all. Over the past week we've flown (or chased flights) from at least seven different sites: Makapuu (with some flights downrange), Diamond Head, Koko Head, Koko Crater, Tantalus, Nanakuli (with some OTB flights), and Makua. And I think we may have missed a good Dillingham day or two in there as well.

I love the variety of flying we get this time of year. Unlike last year's winter season, which was pretty stingy with the good flying days, I have a feeling this one will be bountiful. Too bad I'll be out of town the next three weeks, but I know you guys will keep the web site humming with stories, photos and videos while I'm gone. If I don't see you before this Friday, I'll see you next year!

Thanks again to Cade and Alex for showing us it was working out at Makua, and especially Loren who gave me the motivation to hike up for a fun late afternoon ride. Hopefully Becca will post up some of the pics she took out there too.

Alex, I hope you get back soon enough to catch the end of some really great flying! I've heard that it is supposed to be an El'Nino year and when I first started flying we had one and flew Makapu'u for 30 days in a row with epic light conditions! I hope to do my part to keep your blog going.

Yep, this is supposed to be an El Nino year, and hopefully that bodes well for our flying as it has in previous years. I'll be back Jan 2, and I hope to catch up with you before you head back to the mainland.

Alex-
Sorry I'll miss you this time. I'll be on island almost exactly the days you'll be off! Starting Monday the 14th, I'll be looking to fly with some monkeys...
