Over the past two days Logan and I enjoyed some high wind hiking along the ridges surrounding our beloved Kahana Bay. On the first day we hiked the Puu Piei ridge, skipping the traditional hike to the peak and instead searching in vain along a network of pig trails for the legendary loop connection down either of the launch ridges. Not satisfied with the failure of that goofy plan, on the following day we connected two separate death-defying trails into a marathon loop above Kaaawa, ascending the steep shoulder of Hidden Valley, braving the endless cloud-soaked jungle bog deep behind the ridgeline, and finally racing darkness to descend along the Puu Manamana trail into Kahana. It's not a race that we won, I should point out.

High wind hiking

Wow !! I'm impressed by Logan's bravery - based on the pictures I would have thought twice before scaling some of those spots. Nice job guys. Thanks for the story Alex.
That's a pretty impressive accomlishment for you two! Hiking Hawaii's ridges is not for the faint of heart and you need to review your understanding of certain words in the English language - trail .
Alex, it would be very embarrassing if our Dear Leader died in a hiking accident.
By the way, I have an extra head lamp for you and an extra glo-toob for rescue purposes. Be prepared!

That was always one of my favorite hikes with HTMC. There used to be a big Awa patch further up Hidden Valley but the last time I was there, someone had cleaned it out.
