The other day I happened to be perusing my old original logbook, and I realized that my 10 year anniversary is coming up - it was exactly 10 long years ago this coming Sunday that I first did it with Reaper! He took me for a tandem flight at Lanikai on October 4, 1999, and I promptly signed up for lessons after we landed.
We went to Maui for training flights the next week, and a few months later I was a clueless novice pilot. Ten years later, I'm still clueless, but I haven't let that stop me from flying my head off almost every flyable day.
Please join me this coming Sunday, October 4, wherever it is most flyable, and help me celebrate this momentous occasion.
(Ginny - please order some nice conditions for Sunday, if you don't mind. Thanks!)
I'll post more details here as the day approaches. Even if the weather doesn't cooperate I'm inclined to set aside the day for cooler flying at the very least.

What should we bring to celebrate the momentous occasion?
Well, Jim, I'm calling it a fly-in but perhaps that's a bit grandiose. Just bring yourself and your flying gear! If people want to bring beverages, food, maybe a grill, that would be sweet, but I expect it to be a very casual event with no formal plan. Just come out and plan to fly. Of course, plan B is flying the cooler, as always. I'll bring my pop-up tent for the LZ. Stay tuned for what the weather will bring us and where the most likely spot will be.
I think the traditional gift for a 10th anniversary is either tin or aluminum. Maybe some cans of Coconut Porter?? ;)

Will be there with a quick tent too! Hopefully it will be flyable..........its been 5days with out a flight and I am working again Friday that would make 6days.......my wife wants me to go to Maui or something to get my fix....Ginny please make it flyable by Saturday or at least Sunday.
I am thinking Saturday will still be a bit breezy, maybe in the afternoon, like last weekend. Sunday might be a better option. I think we should watch out more for it being pretty easterly. Let's see if I make a good weather person after all....
Ginny, we don't want you to predict it, we want you to control it! Make it nice on Sunday! I know you can do it.
Everyone just show up without flyin gear and it will be perfect fo sho...
Oh god, we had hair back then...! Was it really ten years ago? Feels like yesterday. Besides Maddog, who else is still flying here from 10 years ago? Doug was, but he moved away. Guess we have a new member of the "Cowboys" Maddog - Alex!!

Pete, you and Mad Dog are definitely the main holdouts who are still flying here on a regular basis since the old days. Jamie and Jon both still fly every once in a blue moon. Sandy started flying before me too, and she's only gone temporarily. We hope!
I think calling this an anniversary might have been a mistake. Dorothy asked me: how come we've never had a party for any of our anniversaries? Uh oh. And then she says: congratulations on your ten year marriage to the wind. Uh oh. Then I compounded my trouble by telling her, don't worry, you're invited to the party too! Well it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Woops Alex! I assume all of your real marriage anniversaries have been more personal private affairs, with all of the appropriate attendant revelrous activities. But if you want to have a big public blowout, or renewal of vows on the beach at Kahana, I'm sure all of your friends and wind-junkies will attend!
I am sorry I will miss the anniversary of your acquaintance with the fickle Ms. Wind. John and I will be in town in November to give Thanks for life, liberty and the pursuit of flight. It will be our honeymoon, too, so I don't know how much we'll be getting out and away from our own personal private parties ;-)
Ginny - sounds like we can make this "our" party, too!! We failed to really plan anything for our birthday party!! Let's make it tomorrow with Alex's Anniversary party, yeah? I leave on Tuesday to the mainland (Indiana) for a month. I sure am going to miss flying - but I'm sure I'll find a way to get my fix...hehehehehe (sand dunes? i hope)

Yeah, lets party for Ginny and Bonster's birthdays and Alex's 10th anniversary...
Reaper
Here's a better idea -- since my wing is currently out of commission...let's do a trandem with me, Alex and Reaper!! Alex, you get to drive!
Or...Brazilian Ray; would you want to loan me that comp wing you mentioned? Sure would be nice to try it out before I leave for a month. ;)
I'm like Sidehill...I gotta get my fix...soon!!! So, yeah, Ginny - bring on the good weather tomorrow!
Sandy, I like your adjectives and metaphors regarding Alex's story. Can't wait to see you in November! (I hope I am back by then).
