Maui Doug and Shelly request the honor of your presence at our Flying Wedding Ceremony to be held on Saturday, October 29th, 2011, at cloudbase above Kahana Bay. We have arranged for our Minister from Maui to come over and marry us as we all fly tandems. We will be saying our vows over the radios, so even the non airborne guests can be a part of our special day. I was thinking that maybe we could get some camping permits and have a fun summer ending event.
During the planning of our wedding we realized very early that the guest list was getting way out of hand and we were feeling very overwhelmed and stressed. Since it's our special day, we decided to split the list in half and have two weddings. One wedding would be for flyers and one wedding would be for our non flying family.
Shelly and I met in the 7th grade at John Muir Junior High School in Burbank, California. I had a huge crush on her back then. Shelly's best friend married my best friend, which helped us to keep in touch with each other. Thirty five years later, Shelly called me out of the blue one day due to the promptings of our married best friends. Shelly said she had an extra ticket to the Police concert here on Oahu and was curious if I would like to go with her. I obviously and quickly said yes and soon fell in love all over again with my childhood dream girl.
Shelly and I are happy to announce that the non flying family wedding went off without a hitch as we were united in holy matrimony this past Saturday, August 6th, in the Maile Garden at the Hale Koa Hotel.
I was so relieved after returning home from our staycation honeymoon in Waikiki, when my new wife said those most special words, "Hey sweetie, why don't you go flying!" I am definitely the luckiest guy in the world!
No RSVP is required, just bring your wing as we just want to go with the flow and not get too stressed about all non flying details. We are looking forward to having you all celebrate with us!
With much love and aloha, Doug and Shelly

Congratulations to you both on the first special day! Let me know if I can help out with a tandem on the second one. And I also love how you are thinking of this as a summer ending event on October 29. Man, the summers here are long! You gotta love that. I will cross my fingers for perfect flying weather.
You Lucky Dog. That's awesome. I will definitely be there with tandem in hand.
That is also Halloween weekend, Hehe

Congrats Shelly & Maui Doug! Can't wait for the Kahana fun. Best wishes & bring your newly wed to France with us next year, if Shelly does not fly with you she can go on a Liiiittle hike with Jeannine. We just got back to Annecy from La Clusaz & a short 5 1/2 hr hike to La Tardevant at 8000 feet altitude on the Chaine des Aravis. Views unimaginable!

Congrats Doug and Shelly! Much love for you and your future! Hope to celebrate with you soon.
Congratulations Doug, very happy for you both.
Can't make it that weekend in Oct., , but sending lots of love and aloha to you from the west coast. Hope to get there sometime soon. Cheers!
Thanks everyone for all of your heartfelt comments and well wishes! Shell and I really appreciate it :-)
However, we don’t want the weekend to just be about us. We very much want the weekend to be about celebrating life and the sport we love. Please make known any recent or upcoming birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions that should also be celebrated for next weekend!
Yesterday we all heard that Pete “Reaper” Michelmore was selected as USHPA’s instructor of the year. Congratulations Reaper! Wow, what an honor and definitely deserving of a big weekend long party! Next weekend is going to be a big long party to celebrate lot’s of awesome things :-)
Shell & I will be bringing frosty sodas from Ching’s (fifteen assorted cases) a few big bottles of grape juice, burgers, hot dogs and carne asada taco’s (prepared by Frier Duck’s smoker), and a wedding cake for a lunch to follow our airborne wedding on Saturday, October 29th.
No set lunch time, just land after your flight and help yourself to the food, drink and cake. Please bring a beach chair for your sitting pleasure.
We are planning on doing the ceremony at 12 noonish, either in the air or on the beach. We are not sure of a head count so please think of this event kind of like a meeting/party/camp-out and bring some bevies and goodies to snack on. We are going for camp style casual and just go with the flow.
Thom, Jeff and I have reserved campsites 7,8,9 & 10 for Friday, October 28th & 29th. The Sidehill clan will be setting up site 10. Unfortunately, Jeff and his family will be out of town and will be greatly missed. Thanks again Jeff for helping me to get the sites! So sites 7, 8, and 9 are all wide open for anyone that wants to pitch a tent.
Also, campsites 2,3,4,5,& 6 are still available, here’s the link to reserve https://camping.ehawaii.gov/camping/all,details,1679.html
Much Aloha, Maui Doug & Shelly
